happy happy birthday to the love of my life!
juls and i have been kind of busy these past few weeks, but i managed to put on a decent spread for his birthday. i made thai green curry (ever-favorite of ilonggos --- i don't know why), menudo, pancit, open-faced apple pie and pavlova! save, goy, bem and ernie spent the night at our place; we ate, drank, sang and watched a gazillion movies. hahaha! it was too bad this little gathering was a bit impromptu so only a handful of people were able to come over :-( but those who came made the night really special for us ;-)
---
i'm really loving my new oven! since i got it, i've been baking like crazy! i started out with a simple bread pudding (great for leftover bread crusts, which i usually don't eat), then i made some chocolate cupcakes with buttercream icing.
i scored these cool silicone mold cups at the local daiso store (2 large ones for 100 yen! what a steal! --- i'm going to get a couple more when i pass by again) which are really convenient for baking because the're really easy to clean and the molds are easy to turn over. now i so want a silicone baking sheet so i can make worry-free wafers for sansrival (which save loves) and so i can try making macarons!
here's a pic of the pavlova sandwich i made for goy to take home. cuters no? basically i took the extra meringue from the pavlova and put them into the silicone mold cups, thinking to make smaller ones for people to take home. it didn't work out too well though; the result was something like a mushroom --- the domed surface was perfect but underneath, the whole thing just poufed up and left a sort of tail. i used them to make sandwiches; i spread some whipped cream in between, put some fruit, topped it with another piece of meringue and then decorated it as shown above. cool no?
